Sheila: 3 day juice cleanse interview

7/30/2015

Did you love our last juice  cleanse  interview?  Well,  you're  in  luck  because  we are  featuring another  amazing person...Sheila!
Picture
Here's a quick introduction!

Occupation/hobbies:  I work in Early Intervention Services at Highlands Community Services, which is great because I get to work/play with tiny kiddos, and  when I go home at the end of the day the only person I need to take care of is myself 😊. Hobbies:  YOGA, reading, beekeeping, juicing, singing (when no one is around to hear it), puppy sitting, gardening, eating (I still count this as a hobby, even if it's a necessity.)

Sheila  also teaches  yoga  at Whitetop Yoga!!  Join  her  for  an  incredible class sometime!

Fun Facts about Me:  See above?  I once sang in a choir at the White House for Christmas.  I've never seen the movie Jaws.  I Pedi-cabbed in New Orleans for a season.  I prefer pork roll over bologna (gasp!).  I like eating healthy but will eat pizza any hour of any day.  I geek out on cheese and Harry Potter.  I love naps.

Favorite White Birch Juice:  All of them?  I suppose it depends on the day.  If I'm feeling hungry, I go for a Roots Chakra or Roots and Beets.  If I'm feeling springy, Pink Punch.  Right now, I'm in love with the Sweet Shamrock.  Oh, and I'm currently drinking the Turmeric Tonic after heating it up on the stove (surprisingly warm and tasty!)

And, here  are Sheila's  comments  on  her previous  cleanse  experience & her experience this time!

This is my second time cleansing.  I did my first one some time last year.  Both times, I've gone with a three day cleanse.  For my first cleanse, I wanted to give my digestive system a break, spring cleaning, and detox.  I was very surprised when I found that I never got hungry through the cleanse.  Sure, I had cravings, but I can't recall my stomach actually rumbling from hunger.  Through the cleanse, I found myself in this sort of middle ground with my energy levels.  I wasn't really tired, it was more I just didn't feel any extra energy or even bursts of energy through the day.  It was more of an even, steady, sustaining energy level - just enough to get me through the day.  I slept like a ROCK though, and that was wonderful.

I decided to cleanse this time for the same reasons.  I am rounding out my third and last day of the cleanse, and have had a very similar experience.  The only main difference between this cleanse and my first cleanse is I am finding it harder to turn down food.  Because my cravings for solids have been much stronger this go around, I decided to honor my body with healthy snacks through the day such as a handful of blueberries or nuts here and there.  This has nourished me enough without making me feel like I've lost the digestive benefits of the cleanse.

All in all I would recommend trying a cleanse in any form for every person.  It could be a one day cleanse, a juice for dinner for a few days cleanse, or whatever.  I've found that through cleansing, the body adjusts it's expectations and it has a clearer understanding of what it really needs instead of what it simply wants.

Thank you so much  Sheila  for  being so open  about your  cleanse experience!  We love  that you customized  it to your lifestyle  by  adding  in  healthy snacks  as your  body  needed!

Interested  in how to  customize  your cleanse to fit YOUR lifestyle? You can try a custom cleanse, and work with us to determine the perfect set of juices to fit your goals! Come in & chat with us, or shoot us an email; we would  love  to  answer  any and all of your  questions!

Introducing a NEW Series: Chakras + the Root Chakra

7/27/2015

In many yogic traditions, there are chakras.  These are basically energy centers where our thought & feelings, parts of our physical body, and pure energy all combine.

These energetic centers serve as a wonderful basis to evaluate the body and use spiritual, alternative medicine, and/or yoga practices to heal our mental and physical conditions.

There are 7 chakras, each connected with certain aspects of our physical body & specific  emotions. From this information, we can  use certain techniques to work to heal imbalanced chakras!

Each Monday, we will post here on the blog about each chakra—discussing it more in depth, in regard to it’s manifestations in the body as well as ways to work to heal it. There will also be a weekly chakra-themed contest that you can participate in to win a free juice! First up...Root  Chakra!

Picture
Root Chakra

Sanskrit name: Muladhara
Location in the body: Base of the spine
Color:  Red
Element:   Earth
Involves: Stability, satisfaction with life, and confidence
Physical manifestations of imbalance:
Digestive issues, frequent illness, and lower back, leg, & feet issues
Emotional manifestations of imbalance:  Doubtfulness, anger, anxiety, dependence,  & disorganization/disconnection
Ways to heal this chakra:
·    Nutrition—earthy, root vegetables, red foods (cabbage, red apples, strawberries), foods that are high in protein
·   Aromatherapy—diffuse ginger, clove, cedar, nutmeg or sandalwood essential oils
·      Healing activities—being in nature, spending time with family (“returning to your roots”), doing this  grounding yoga practice

White Birch Juice:  Roots Chakra (carrot, apple, ginger)...We love this earthy, filling juice!
Drinking it makes us think of  a  balanced  Root  Chakra--content,  stable,  &  fulfilled.

CONTEST:

July 16: National Fresh Spinach Day!

7/16/2015

We’d be lying if we didn’t get a kick out of silly “national” days…so on this momentous day, we thought we’d take some time to really appreciate fresh spinach in all its glory!

Picture
We love this nutrient-rich green due to its mild taste. Although  its color is vibrant, the taste of spinach added to juices or smoothies is fairly undetectable, which makes it a perfect green for beginner green juice/smoothie drink-ers!

The Incredible Health Benefits of SPINACH:

-High in vitamins A, K, E & calcium

-High in fiber (great for digestion!)

-One of the best plant-based sources of iron…it has more iron per gram than ground beef!!!      (To ensure better iron absorption, add some vitamin C [lemon, lime, orange] to your spinach meals!)

-Promotes healthy nerve function

-Increases energy levels & boosts metabolism

DID YOU KNOW?  Our owner, Nicole, grows spinach in her garden! What better way to celebrate “National Fresh Spinach Day,” than with some local love?

Try out our Garden Goodness (spinach, pea shoots, cilantro, apple, cucumber, celery, lime) juice, OR ask us to add a handful of delicious spinach to your smoothie, today!

Caitlin + Chad: 3 day juice cleanse interview

7/9/2015

Have you ever wondered what a  3-day  cleanse  would feel like?  We thought we would bring a series to our blog that allows our customers to share their experiences (good & bad)  during their cleanses!
Picture
First in this  series is a couple...Caitlin &  Chad!  Caitlin was wonderful--she filled out the following  questionnaire &  sent us daily updates  on how  she  & Chad were feeling!
Here's a quick introduction to their lifestyle & cleansing experience:

Occupation/hobbies:  Chad is the orthodontist at Westfall Orthodontics, He LOVES to play golf. I am the Professional Relations Coordinator at Westfall Orthodontics, I enjoy gardening and riding my bike. I also love to cook. We have a one-year old son, Jack, and spend most of our time playing with him :)

Fun fact:  Chad was in a putting contest with Phil Mickelson.

Favorite White Birch Juice:  Chad-Turmeric Tonic, Caitlin-Green Gold

Is this your first time cleansing?  No

If you're a veteran cleanse-r, could you describe your last experience? What made you decide to cleanse again? Any different goals/hesitations this time?

This is our second cleanse, so it's still newish to us :)

Before our first cleanse our biggest hesitation probably was whether or not we could actually make it three days, but once we picked up our juice we decided there was no way we were backing out or 'cheating' It was a lot of fun to do with Chad. We kept the same schedule, drank our juice, water and aloe water together. It was very motivating to have a partner to cleanse with, it kept the temptations away, we were committed to the same three day goal :) During the cleanse overall we both felt really good. We also both noticed that we slept SO well at night and woke feeling bright and refreshed, that was amazing!!! I do admit there were times when we missed eating but mostly I think it was because it was part of our daily routine.

We loved our first cleanse so much we couldn't wait to do it again! We felt so amazing and also experienced some positive changes after our first cleanse. We noticed that the cleanse helped us to kick certain cravings and pick up some new (much healthier) ones... Turmeric Tonic, Green Gold. During/after the last cleanse I felt that I was more focused and had great energy (even though I gave up my coffee habit for the cleanse!).

We don't have any hesitations starting our second cleanse, we are looking forward to feeling refreshed and recharged! Also I love being able to enjoy 7 tasty juices a day :)

And now, here are Caitlin's  daily comments during the cleanse:

DAY ONE: Loooooved the happy cleansing note you put on our day one juices, that was so sweet and cute!

DAY TWO: We had a great day today, day 2 of our cleanse. We both woke up feeling very well rested and refreshed. We really LOVED the Sweet Mint, great addition to our cleanse kits! It's was a true treat, we drank that one around noon. I really loved drinking the Garden Goodness and Roots and Beets today, I enjoyed them all but those three especially. I had a very productive day and evening. I am looking forward to another fantastic nights sleep and waking feeling refreshed!

DAY THREE:   Day three, we both felt great!!! Woke up feeling bright and refreshed. We both had a lot of energy all day!

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
We woke up this morning feeling great - had another fantastic sleep. We finished our three day cleanse and this morning we both couldn't wait to get up and have our Turmeric Tonic and green juice. We certainly have changed our eating habits as a result of doing the cleanses, all for the better!!!

We both agree doing the second cleanse was much easier than the first, I think we both enjoyed it a little more - not sure if it's because we knew what to expect (and knew how fantastic we would feel) or because we knew we could do it again since we completed the first one :) Either way we really enjoyed our second cleanse and will definitely be doing a third, fourth.... On and on. We absolutely love the juices, they are delicious, and the added bonus is that they make you feel sooo good!!! We are hooked, just jucin'!
Picture
Don't you LOVE Caitlin's new tote bag? With her cleanse, it was just $5!

YAY! Thank you so much Chad &  Caitlin for sharing your experience with us, and we are so excited that you love "just  juicin'!"

We absolutely adore the idea of cleansing with a friend! So, grab your best friend, your mom, or your partner, and start some healthy habits together with a  cleanse!

MEALTIME MONDAY: Fruit Infused Water

7/6/2015

During the summer, we can start to experience the uncomfortable symptoms of dehydration (dry skin, tiredness, food cravings, headaches, weakness). We all know that we should drink “plenty of water,” but it is sometimes a tough thing to do!

Here’s a recipe for a fast, easy infused water that can quench your thirst & brighten your day!

Picture
Picture
Recipe:

Small handful of pineapple & blueberries (we used  frozen to make it super easy!)

Splash of our Blue Melon juice (add as much or as little as you’d like)

Fresh mint, coarsely chopped

Add everything to a glass or water bottle and fill to the top with water. Add ice, if you’d like. Drink immediately, or store in the fridge for an hour or two—the more the fruit infuses, the stronger the flavor!

Picture
Cheers! Enjoy (and  don't forget to post a picture to our Facebook, if you try it out!).

Juice. Play. Repeat.

We don’t know about you, but in the summer, we become a LOT more active! We love to be outside soaking up the sunshine. But, sometimes while outside doing super fun activities like paddle boarding, swimming, hiking, or mountain climbing, there’s a good chance that we might start to feel drained and dehydrated.  This is where juicing comes in!
Picture
Did you know that spinach is approximately 91% water? Guess you can put that on the long list of reasons to eat your greens!

We love fruits and veggies that contain high water contents—like watermelon, celery, cucumber, cantaloupe, strawberries, and carrots (…pretty much  the ingredients we use in our juices!).
Picture
Can you believe how much water is in some of your favorite fruits & veggies?
Picture
Our juices are also packed with nutrition and energy-sustaining micronutrients, which will keep tiredness at bay.
Already drinking a juice daily to combat these issues? Maybe start to incorporate beverages full of electrolytes…we love love love coconut water!

***Also, don’t forget the obvious (and most important) method to stay hydrated--drinking plenty of H2O!***

 It’s a difficult thing to do…
Tip: Add a splash of citrus juice and some mint (or your favorite fresh herb) to your water and sip away!

Drink up, get outside, and play!
